Three minutes to understand ceramic membrane

As a kind of solid membrane, ceramic membrane is a ceramic filter separation material with porous ceramic as the carrier and microporous ceramic membrane as the filter layer. The pores of ceramic membrane are 0.004~15μm, tubular and multi-channel, and its main materials are: Al2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, SiO2 and other inorganic materials.

At present, according to the structure, it can be divided into symmetrical ceramic membrane and asymmetric ceramic membrane.

So what exactly is an asymmetric ceramic membrane? As the name suggests, asymmetric ceramic membranes consist of at least two layers, and in some cases more than three layers. The thickness of the support layer is generally about a few millimeters, the pore diameter range is about 1~10μm, the thickness of the intermediate transition layer is generally 10~100μm, the pore size range is usually 50~100nm, the filter layer is very thin, its thickness is about 1~10μm, and the pore size is often below 100nm. Due to the structural characteristics of "asymmetry" of asymmetric ceramic membrane, it can effectively constitute a defect-free separation layer, effectively ensure the mechanical strength of the ceramic membrane, and reduce the hydraulic resistance of the ceramic membrane.

With the serious shortage of global water resources, the use of ceramic membrane separation technology for wastewater treatment and reuse is more important. From the perspective of material characteristics, because ceramic membranes can carry out long-term stable separation operations under harsh conditions, this also determines that the main direction of ceramic membranes in the field of water treatment is wastewater treatment, especially the treatment of industrial wastewater. At present, ceramic membranes are mainly used in chemical and petroleum wastewater, oily wastewater, printing and dyeing wastewater, radioactive wastewater and domestic sewage and other treatment fields.

Compared with the traditional water treatment process, ceramic membrane has the characteristics of high porosity, narrow pore size distribution, small filtration resistance, thin separation layer, etc., and has high treatment capacity per unit membrane surface area, large water production capacity, and stable chemical properties of the membrane, which can be operated stably for a long time in wastewater treatment and provide technical support for industrial wastewater treatment
